Attending the International Liver Transplant Symposium (Vinmec Times City General Hospital), world’s top liver transplant specialist – Dr. Chao Long Chen (Kaosiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan) has evaluated the success rate of liver transplants at Vinmec to be equivalent of an international level.
The International Liver Transplant Symposium took place within 2 days (from March 3rd to March 4th, 2018), organized by Vinmec Health Care System, attracting the attention of doctors from acclaimed hospitals such as Bach Mai, Viet Duc, Central Military Hospital 108, K Hospital and Central Tropical Hospital. Moreover, the symposium welcomed the world’s leading liver transplant specialists group from Kaosiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan), led by Dr. Chao Long Chen.
Dr. Chao Long Chen successfully performed the first liver transplant surgery in Asia in 1984. An acclaimed specialist in liver transplantation regionally and internationally, up until 2017, he has performed 1,700 successful operations, dealing with complicated situations for which his efforts are highly appreciated.
Within 2 days, various subjects surrounding diagnosing advancement, liver disease intervention treatment, with focus on centralizing on liver transplant, were discussed enthusiastically by attendants. Dr. Chao-Long Chen and colleagues had updated the latest knowledge about liver transplant techniques from living donors to acute-on-chronic liver failure patients, the application of microsurgery in liver and gallbladder arteriorrhaphy in liver transplants.
Especially, the Taiwanese specialists had consulted with doctors from Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, Internal (Liver), Endoscopy of Gastroenterology Department, along with surgeons from the Liver Center of Vinmec about crossed department collaboration and multi-modal treatment in liver cancer.
Within the Symposium, Vinmec’s initial achievements in liver transplantation were presented with national and international experts. To date, Vinmec is the first private Health care system in Vietnam to successfully perform liver transplantation from a living donor. With professional staff, up-to-date equipment and international-standard technical procedure. After deploying for almost 1 year, Vinmec has operated 16 successful liver transplants – some included complication from final stages of liver failure, which required high-tech and effective, harmonious coordination between departments.
Prof. Chao Long Chen emphasized his appreciation for Vinmec’s liver transplant achievements, stating : “Vinmec transplanting results are extremely outstanding, the success rate is equal to that of a global standard;This is very impressive to me.”
Prof. Chao Long Chen also personally toured Vinmec Times City Hospital facility (Diagnostic Imaging, Operation, Recovery and Emergency Dep.) and appraised: “Vinmec’s facilities and area have reached the international standard. Sharing in the symposium, Dr. Prof. Bui Duc Phu – Vice President of Vinmec Health Care System stated: “The initial achievements built the foundation by which we can reach the goal of 30 liver transplant operations yearly, expanding to liver transplants for children, to transplanting from 2 different donors, transplanting from brain dead donor. Along with liver and kidney transplants being carried out under the general organs transplant program, in the near future Vinmec will implement cardiac transplantation and implant cardiac support devices for final stage patients. Vinmec will strive to be the professional Transplant Center qualifying an international standard.”
