2. How to use and dose Articadent

Healthy adults: The maximum recommended dose of Articadent is 7mg/kg articaine hydrochloride and 0.0017mg/kg epinephrine; Pediatric patients 4 to 16 years of age: The maximum recommended dose of Articadent is 7 mg/kg articaine hydrochloride and 0.0017 mg/kg epinephrine. In debilitated patients, the elderly and pediatric patients may be given lower doses (as directed by the physician). There are no studies on the use of Articadent in patients with hepatic or renal impairment. The drug should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease.
Overdose: When taking Articadent drug overdose, it is necessary to carefully and continuously monitor the patient's vital signs, if there are first changes, the patient should be given oxygen. Then, treat convulsions, hypoventilation,... If cardiac arrest occurs, measures should be taken to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

3. Articadent side effects


When using Articadent, patients may experience some side effects including:
Common: Facial edema, headache, infection, pain, gingivitis, paresthesia, swelling, jaw stiffness, nausea and vomiting. vomiting, drowsiness, numbness and tingling, palpitations, ear pain, otitis media, persistent cough; Uncommon: Asthenia, back pain, injection site pain, burning sensation at injection site, neck pain, discomfort, migraine, fainting, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, digestive disorders , bleeding gums , glossitis , mouth ulcers , nausea , tongue edema , vomiting , pulse rash , skin bruising , edema , thirst , muscle pain , arthralgia , osteomyelitis , dry mouth , dizziness , facial paralysis, narcosis, hypersalivation, palpitations, neuropathy, paresthesia, somnolence, pharyngitis, rhinitis, sinus congestion, sinus pain, pruritus, skin disorders, ear pain, eye muscle paralysis ,... 4. Be careful when using Articadent


Some notes patients need to remember before and while using Articadent:
Check the drug before use, if there is cloudiness or discoloration, the drug should not be used; The use of Articadent during pregnancy is not recommended, unless the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks. Should consult a doctor before giving the drug to pregnant women; Articadent should be used with caution in nursing women. When using the drug, mothers should express breast milk for about 4 hours after injecting Articadent before continuing to breastfeed; Avoid injecting Articadent into a blood vessel because it can cause convulsions, central nervous system depression, respiratory depression and coma, even leading to respiratory arrest; Use caution when using Articadent in people with heart block and people with impaired cardiovascular function; Using Articadent drugs can cause central nervous system toxicity with manifestations of anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, tinnitus, tremor, blurred vision, drowsiness, depression,... Should be carefully and continuously monitored. on vital signs (cardiovascular and respiratory) and state of consciousness of the patient after each local injection of Articadent; Articadent should be used at the lowest effective dose to reduce the risk of high plasma concentrations causing serious side effects; Articadent should be used with caution because epinephrine (a vasoconstrictor) can cause local or systemic toxicity. Local toxicities include ischemic injury or necrosis (possibly related to vasospasm); Use of local anesthetics such as Articadent can cause methemoglobinemia. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor for symptoms and signs of this condition when using Articadent in people with G6PD deficiency, infants under 6 months of age, people with congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia, patients with lesions heart or lungs; Articadent contains sodium metabisulfite, a sulfite that can cause allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis and life-threatening asthma attacks).

5. Articadent drug interactions


Some drug interactions of Articadent include:
Concomitant use of Articadent with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonists, tricyclic antidepressants can cause severe and prolonged hypertension long; Phenothiazines and butyrophenones can reduce or reverse the antihypertensive effect of the epinephrine component of Articadent, so the concomitant use of these drugs should be avoided.
