Uses of Indacaterol

Indacaterol is a beta-2-adrenergic receptor agonist drug designed to treat airway obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Depending on your health condition and disease progression, your doctor will make an appropriate prescription.

1. Indacaterol's Indications and Contraindications

Indacaterol is indicated to help bronchodilator for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) when falling into a state of shortness of breath.
Indacaterol is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or ingredients in the drug.

2. How to use Indacaterol

The drug is administered by inhalation thanks to the attached device. The medicine should be taken at the same time each day.
Adults are recommended to use an inhaled dose of one 150 mcg capsule once daily via an inhaler. For patients with severe COPD, a dose of Indacaterol 300 mcg/day can be used. The dosage can only be increased or decreased depending on the doctor's prescription to suit the condition of the disease.

3. Some notes when using Indacaterol

Some possible reactions after using Indacaterol bronchodilator include:
Hypersensitivity reactions: After using the drug immediately, some side effects were noted such as difficulty breathing, urticaria, difficulty breathing. swallowing, skin rash, swelling of the tongue, lips and face. If any of the above symptoms appear, the drug should be stopped immediately and reported to the doctor for alternative therapy. Paradoxical bronchospasm: Patients after using Indacaterol may develop paradoxical bronchospasm which, if left untreated, can be life-threatening. If this occurs, the drug should be discontinued immediately and alternative therapy instituted. The drug is not indicated in the treatment of acute COPD. If a patient with COPD worsens during treatment with Indacaterol, a re-evaluation of the COPD regimen should be performed. Increasing the daily dose above 300 micrograms is not appropriate. Asthma: Indacaterol should not be used in patients with bronchial asthma because it is a beta-2-adrenergic agonist and may increase the risk of asthma with serious adverse events, even death. Effects on the cardiovascular system: Indacaterol should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, hypertension, arrhythmia. In addition, patients with convulsive disorders, thyrotoxicosis, or an abnormal response to beta 2 -adrenergic agonists should also be cautious when using this drug. Hypokalemia: Some patients will experience this reaction when taking beta 2 -adrenergic agonists and have the potential to cause cardiovascular side effects. This hypokalemia is usually transient and does not require supplementation. Hypokalemia may be increased in patients with severe COPD due to hypoxia and concomitant therapies. Hyperglycemia: High doses of beta-2-adrenergic agonists may increase blood glucose levels. Therefore, when starting treatment, it is necessary to monitor blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. Caution for pregnant women: To date, there are no efficacy or safety studies on the use of Indacaterol in pregnant women. Like other beta-2-adrenergic agonists, indacaterol can relax uterine smooth muscle causing inhibition of labor. Therefore, Indacaterol should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks. Operate machines or drive a vehicle: Indacaterol has no or negligible influence on the use of machines and the ability to drive.

4. Interaction between Indacaterol with other drugs

When Indacaterol is used together with beta-adrenergic blockers, there may be an antagonistic or attenuating effect on each other.
In addition, the concomitant use of sympathomimetic drugs may increase the adverse reactions of Indacaterol.
Drug interactions that may alter the effectiveness or increase the severity of reactions in the body. Therefore, it is necessary to talk to your doctor about the medications you are taking for specific instructions.
