Tongue adhesions in infants
Tongue-tie is a mild congenital defect caused by a short, thick, or tightly fused frenulum that impedes normal tongue movement. In most cases of mild tongue-tie, the tip of the tongue will gradually separate on its own. In others, frenulum surgery may be indicated, which is a quick, minor procedure and the child can breastfeed and eat immediately afterwards.
