Radiation therapy for head and neck cancer exposes normal soft tissues of the jaw, face, and throat to radiation that can lead to tissue damage, which is called radiation fibrosis. The signs and symptoms of soft tissue damage from radiation therapy are collectively known as radiation sclerosing syndrome.
