Do children with congenital hypothyroidism develop normally?
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck. It uses iodine from the food you eat to make a hormone called T4 (thyroxine). Congenital hypothyroidism is a condition that occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones to meet the body's needs.
