Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a serious complication of radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. The disease can develop up to 5 years after radiation treatment. Common signs of osteonecrosis of the jaw include pain, difficulty chewing, swelling, oral-skin fistulas, and nonhealing sores.
