Scleroderma is an autoimmune connective tissue disease. In systemic sclerosis with multisystemic involvement, skin signs and symptoms are particularly important because they can be recognized before systemic manifestations, allowing the patient the opportunity for early diagnosis and treatment, improving the long-term prognosis.
