Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is the abnormal growth of cells that line the cervix. These lesions, also known as precancerous lesions, CIN may resolve spontaneously or develop into cancer. Early detection, treatment, and monitoring of CNI help prevent cervical cancer.

Precancerous cervix is also known as carcinoma in situ. At this stage, abnormal epithelial cells have just begun to appear in the lining of the cervix but have not invaded deep into the main tissue or spread to other parts.
