How does tartar form?
Dental calculus (tartar) is plaque that has been calcified by calcium phosphate salt compounds in saliva. Plaque needs to exist in the mouth for about 1 week to transform into tartar.

Does removing tartar have any effect on teeth?
Regular brushing cannot remove all tartar. Therefore, tartar can only be cleaned by dental treatment such as scaling and polishing with specialized tools.

How often should tartar be removed?
Tartar usually forms in layers on the tooth surface near the gums, and is opaque white or pale yellow. In many cases, tartar can be seen as black. You should practice good oral hygiene to prevent plaque and visit your dentist every 3-6 months.
