Is eye color determined by genetics?
Eye color depends on the amount of melanin pigment stored in the front layers of the iris. Melanocytes produce melanin pigment, which is stored in intracellular compartments called melanosomes. Everyone has roughly the same number of melanocytes, but the amount of melanin and the number of melanosomes in the melanocytes vary. So what determines a person's eye color?
