Complications of common bile duct cysts
Choledochal cyst was first described anatomically in 1723, the disease is quite rare in Western countries but more common in Asian people. The typical triad of the disease is abdominal pain, jaundice and a palpable tumor in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen, which is more common in children than in adults.

Common bile duct cysts in neonates
Choledochal cysts are congenital abnormalities of the duct that carries bile from the liver to the gallbladder and small intestine. When a child has a choledochal cyst, the bile duct becomes swollen and bile becomes blocked in the liver, leading to liver damage or pancreatitis. In addition, children with this condition have a higher risk of developing bile duct cancer as they age.
