Social, cognitive and physical development milestones for 6-8 year olds
The period from age 6 to 8 is one of major cognitive changes for children. Children begin to make the transition from preschool to adolescence, from a life dominated by fantasy to one that begins to be dominated by logic and reason. Children begin to see themselves as more autonomous individuals, capable of basic independent problem solving. As they begin to recognize the “right” way of doing things, they invest more time and energy in getting things done the way they are expected to. However, like preschoolers, they continue to prefer structured activities over adventurous ones, and they continue to need consistent direction from adults. In this article, we will provide useful information to help you better understand the social, cognitive, and physical developmental milestones of 6-8 year olds.
