Sutures: How long does it take for the thread to dissolve on its own?
Dissolvable sutures can be used to close surgical wounds or incisions. Some wounds or incisions are closed using absorbable sutures underneath the surface, while others cannot. Dissolvable sutures are more likely to leave scars than regular sutures, so they are often used as internal sutures. Dissolvable sutures will disappear on their own over time.
