Meteospasmyl contains the active ingredients Alverine (60mg) and Simethicone (300mg), used to treat intestinal disorders. The medication is formulated as milky-white, shiny, elongated soft capsules containing a thick, white mixture inside.
1. What Does Meteospasmyl Treat?
Meteospasmyl is an antispasmodic drug. With Alverine and Simethicone as its components, it is indicated for symptomatic treatment of functional intestinal disorders (digestive pain accompanied by gastrointestinal distention), especially when bloating is present.
- Alverine citrate: A musculotropic antispasmodic agent that helps relieve intestinal cramps.
- Simethicone: An inert substance without direct pharmacological effects, capable of altering the surface tension of gas bubbles, effectively countering flatulence.
Contraindications: Meteospasmyl should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to any of the active ingredients or excipients of the medication.
2. How to Use and Dosage of Meteospasmyl
Administration: Oral use.
Dosage: Meteospasmyl is for adult use only. The usual dose is 1 capsule, taken 2-3 times per day, preferably before meals or when experiencing abdominal pain, bloating, or intestinal disturbances.
Note: The specific dosage depends on the patient’s condition and disease progression. Patients should consult a physician for a suitable dose.
Do not use the medication at lower, higher, or longer durations than prescribed by a doctor. In case of overdose, seek emergency care or go to the nearest medical center. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it’s almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule.
3. Side Effects of Meteospasmyl
While using Meteospasmyl, patients may experience some rare side effects:
- Liver: Liver damage (the liver returns to normal after stopping the medication)
- Respiratory: Respiratory disorders, laryngeal edema
- Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Urticaria (hives)

If any side effects occur, discontinue use and inform a doctor or visit the nearest medical facility for timely treatment and management.
4. Precautions When Using Meteospasmyl

- Alverine affects pregnant women or fetuses. However, to ensure safety, pregnant women should not use Meteospasmyl.
- Breastfeeding Women: Although no evidence suggests that the active ingredients harm the health of mother or child, breastfeeding women should avoid Meteospasmyl to ensure safety.
