On June 30, 2023, the Cardiovascular Center under Vinmec Central Park International Hospital organized a workshop to update and exchange knowledge on treatment of cardiovascular diseases with doctors at Vinh Long General Hospital. The workshop provided free screening of cardiovascular diseases to the public.
In June 2023, when the doctors from the Cardiovascular Center came to check on patients at Vinh Long General Hospital, Ms. Thach Thi Bonl’s (56 years old, Khmer ethnic) was in critical condition. She had a history of heart failure and mitral valve regurgitation, also having her heart valve replaced with a biological valve 12 years ago. Due to tough economic circumstances, she could not afford another surgery. Fortunately, during the Center's visit to Vinh Long General Hospital, the doctors there helped Ms. Bonl arrange an examination with Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Phan. Fate had brought her to Associate Professor Phan, who replaced her heart valve, helped her recover nicely, and ignited her optimism. Mrs. Bonl felt like she was reborn a second time.
During their visit to Vinh Long in June 2023, Vinmec doctors examined Ms. Bonl and about 10 other patients with cardiovascular disease. They then underwent an operation at Vinmec Central Park International Hospital. In particular, poor people and those from ethnic minorities were provided with surgery costs.
From June to November 2023, doctors at Vinmec Central Park’s Cardiovascular Center visited patients in Vinh Long twice. Thanks to the effective coordination between cardiologists from Vinh Long Hospital and Vinmec, 300 people and patients in Vinh Long and neighboring provinces were examined and screened for cardiovascular disease. As a result, many contracted cases were promptly detected, many consultations were organized, and treatment guidelines were introduced. Some patients were also transferred to Vinmec Central Park International Hospital (HCMC) for surgery.
Within the framework of this program, Vinmec doctors also organized meeting sessions to exchange experiences on the treatment of cardiovascular diseases with colleagues in Vinh Long. At the scientific conferences, Vinmec doctors shared many new techniques in current cardiovascular intervention and surgery. Vinmec is one of the few hospitals in Vietnam to pioneer using these techniques and achieve many successes.
Prof. Dr. Vo Thanh Nhan, Director of Vinmec Central Park International Hospital’s Cardiovascular Center, shared about the technique of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), which is an advanced cardiovascular intervention technique that Professor Nhan is currently a trainer of. He is also recognized as the only person capable of independently performing the technique in Vietnam. From 2017 until now, Professor Vo Thanh Nhan has performed more than 100 TAVI procedures with a success rate of over 95%. Professor Nhan's experience in implementing TAVI is considered to be on par with experts in Southeast Asia.
The doctors at Vinh Long General Hospital also had the opportunity to discuss atrial fibrillation surgery with Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Phan - Deputy Director of the Cardiovascular Center - Vinmec Central Park International Hospital. Associate Professor Phan is now one of the leading cardiovascular surgeons in Vietnam, specializing in atrial fibrillation surgery using radiofrequency waves. In addition, at the seminar, Specialist Level 2 Doctor Huynh Hoang Khang, an expert with more than 20 years of experience in cardiovascular surgery, shared the technique of coronary artery bypass surgery without using an extracorporeal circulator.
In recent times, Vinmec Central Park International Hospital’s Cardiovascular Center has regularly cooperated with other facilities to exchange experiences and support doctors and medical staff working at the provincial-level health establishments in the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions. These activities provided opportunities for them to access advanced treatment methods. Committing to the mission of "bringing the best service to all" Vinmec has continuously held free screening programs in many locations, thereby detecting early medical symptoms and facilitating the provision of high-quality examination, diagnosis, and treatment services. The meaningful collaboration between doctors at Vinmec and Vinh Long Hospital raised the awareness of more than 300 participants, broadened their health care knowledge, and detected potential diseases for prompt treatment.
