What could a hard lump in a pregnant woman's lower abdomen indicate?

Question
Dear Doctor, I am currently more than 3 months pregnant, but due to some circumstances, I have not been able to have an ultrasound yet. For about 2 weeks now, I've noticed a hard lump in my lower abdomen. I can feel it more when I lie down, and it becomes more prominent when I use the restroom. I would like to ask, what could this hard lump in a pregnant woman's lower abdomen indicate, and is it something to be concerned about?

Hello,
In response to your question, "what could this hard lump in a pregnant woman's lower abdomen indicate?", the doctor explains:

The sign as you describe is the phenomenon of physiological uterine contractions. This phenomenon usually occurs at night. The characteristic of physiological uterine contractions is that the uterine muscles contract but do not cause pain or vaginal bleeding.

For now, keep up with your regular prenatal check-ups. If you start experiencing pain, bleeding, or more frequent contractions, see your doctor right away.

If you still have questions about a hard lump in your lower abdomen, you can go to a hospital of Vinmec Health System for further examination and advice. Thank you for trusting and sending questions to Vinmec. Wishing you lots of health.
