What do tinnitus, shortness of breath, and a rapid heart rate indicate?

Question:

Hello, doctor,

I have been experiencing tinnitus in one ear for the past 2 years. I have had an ear endoscopy, but there were no symptoms of middle ear inflammation or earwax. Currently, my tinnitus is getting worse, and each episode is accompanied by shortness of breath, rapid breathing, a fast heart rate, and almost no energy. The clearest symptom is when I am in a hot, cramped, or crowded environment, which triggers this condition.

The most severe symptoms happened today, after being outside in the sun and arriving at work for about 5-10 minutes. I felt short of breath, tinnitus, and could not stand up properly. Even after getting into the elevator and stepping out, my vision went dark, and I couldn't see anything. I’m very confused because I don’t know what illness I might have, and after searching online, the symptoms don’t match what I’m experiencing. So, doctor, could you please tell me, what does tinnitus combined with shortness of breath and rapid heart rate indicate?

Thank you, doctor.

Hello,

Regarding the question "What does tinnitus with shortness of breath and rapid heart rate indicate?", doctor provides the following answer:

Tinnitus can have many causes, which may stem from conditions either within or outside the ear. The symptoms you describe, such as the absence of ear inflammation, no earwax, and no mention of hearing loss, combined with tinnitus accompanied by shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, fatigue, and dizziness, are often signs of an underlying medical condition. Therefore, you should check your thyroid function and consult a cardiologist to identify the specific cause.

If you still have concerns about the tinnitus combined with shortness of breath, you can visit hospitals within the Vinmec Healthcare System for examination and further consultation. Thank you for trusting and sending your question to Vinmec. Wishing you good health.

Sincerely!
