What is Emanera?

Peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are 2 of the common diseases today. The treatment process is also relatively difficult and most are based on the proton pump inhibitor group with the typical representative being Esomeprazole in the drug Emanera. So what is Emanera drug and what disease does Emanera treat?

1. What is Emanera?

What is Emanera drug? Emanera products manufactured by KRKA, D.D., Novo Mesto companies with the main active ingredient Esomeprazole should be commonly indicated in the treatment regimens for esophageal and gastric diseases. Emanera drug includes 2 strengths 20 and 40mg.

2. What disease does Emanera treat?

Problems related to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) such as: esophageal ulcers caused by reflux; Prevention of recurrence of esophagitis; Treatment relieves symptoms.
Use Emanera drug combined with antibiotics regimen to kill Helicobacter pylori bacteria.
Indications of Emanera in adults:
In relation to gastroesophageal reflux disease: Treatment of esophageal ulcers caused by reflux; Prevent recurrence of esophagitis; Symptomatic treatment of GERD; Emanera combines antibiotics to eradicate Helicobacter pylori: Heals ulcers caused by H.P; Prevention of recurrent peptic ulcers in people infected with Helicobacter pylori; Patients who are taking NSAIDs are treated with Emanera for the following purposes: Prevention of gastric ulcers, especially in patients at high risk of ulcers. Zollinger - Ellison syndrome and diseases that cause increased gastric acid secretion; Maintenance therapy after prevention of gastrointestinal re-bleeding from intravenous peptic ulcers.

3. Pharmacological characteristics of the drug Emanera

The active ingredient Esomeprazole in Emanera binds to the H+/K+-ATPase (or proton pump) pump in the parietal cells of the stomach, thereby inactivating this enzyme system and ultimately inhibiting the final step of the process. secrete HCl into the gastric lumen.
Emanera is rapidly absorbed orally, maximum plasma concentrations are reached after 1-2 hours. The bioavailability of Esomeprazole increases with oral dose and with repeated dosing, reaching approximately 68% with oral administration of Emanera 20 mg and 89% with a dose of 40 mg.
Food may slow the absorption of Emanera, but do not significantly change the effect of reducing gastric acid secretion. Approximately 97% of an Esomeprazole dose is bound to plasma proteins. Emanera is metabolized mainly in the liver by the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, the CYP2C19 isoenzyme with a half-life of about 1.3 hours.

4. Dosage of the drug Emanera

About how to use Emanera, patients should note the following issues:
Take Emanera at any time of the day; Can be before or after a meal; Patients need to swallow Emanera tablets whole with water, do not chew or crush when taking. The recommended dose of Emanera is as follows:

Then adjust the dose according to the patient's response and continue treatment as long as clinically indicated. Dose of Emanera in some special subjects:
People with renal failure: No dose adjustment is required, however, due to limited experience in using Emanera in this subject, caution should be exercised; Patients with impaired liver function: No need to reduce the dose in mild to moderate liver failure, in severe liver failure only use a maximum dose of 20mg Esomeprazole per day; Elderly: No dose adjustment is required; Children under 12 years of age: There are no research data when using Emanera for this subject.

Patients have alarming symptoms such as weight loss, recurrent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood or black stools... and when stomach ulcer is suspected. gastric ulcer or the fact that peptic ulcer is present, the diagnosis of malignancy should be excluded. This is due to the fact that treatment with Emanera relieves symptoms, which in turn may delay the diagnosis of dangerous malignancies; Patients treated with Emanera should contact their doctor if their symptoms change. The appointment of Esomeprazole should consider drug interactions because plasma concentrations of Esomeprazole may vary; When prescribing Emanera for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, the physician should consider possible drug interactions in the 3-drug regimen; Emanera contains sucrose, therefore caution should be exercised in patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency; Treatment with proton pump inhibitors such as Emanera may increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections caused by Salmonella and Campylobacter; Emanera, like other stomach antacids, can reduce the absorption of vitamin B12; Severe hypomagnesemia has been reported with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) such as Emanera for at least 3 months; Proton pump inhibitors (such as Emanera) when taken in high doses and for a long period of time (more than 1 year) may slightly increase the risk of fractures of the femoral neck, wrist and spine, especially in the elderly or with comorbidities. according to other risk factors; Pregnant women should use caution when using Emanera; Breastfeeding mothers should not use Emanera.

The drug Emanera has the main active ingredient Esomeprazole, so it is commonly prescribed in the treatment regimens of esophageal and gastric diseases. To ensure the effectiveness of treatment and avoid side effects, patients need to take medicine according to prescription or consult a doctor, professional pharmacist.
