Neo-codion is a drug commonly used in the treatment of dry cough, but this is a prescription drug, should not be abused. With the main active ingredient is Codeine camphosulphonate, each tablet contains 15 mg of Codeine, which has the effect of reducing cough by acting directly on the cough center in the medulla oblongata. Codeine dries respiratory secretions and increases the viscosity of bronchial secretions. Codeine is not effective enough to relieve severe cough. Codeine is a cough suppressant in case of a dry cough that makes it difficult to sleep.

1. Indications and contraindications for the use of Codeine

The drug is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of dry, irritating cough in adults.
Usual dose:
Adults: 1 tablet/time, repeat after 6 hours if needed, not more than 4 times/day. Elderly or patients with hepatic impairment: The starting dose should be reduced by half the adult dose, and may be increased if necessary depending on tolerability and need, but should not exceed the normal adult dose. at least 6 hours apart. Some subjects should not use Codeine including:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug Respiratory failure Cough in asthma patients Breastfeeding women Children under 18 years old

2. Side effects of drugs

When using the drug, the following undesirable reactions may occur:
Common (incidence > 1%): headache, dizziness, thirst, strange sensations, nausea, vomiting, constipation, urinary retention, oliguria, fast or slow pulse, palpitations, weakness, orthostatic hypotension Uncommon (incidence from 0.1 to 1%): pruritus, urticaria, respiratory depression, restlessness, stomach pain , bile duct spasm Rare (incidence < 0.1%): anaphylactoid reactions, hallucinations, disorientation, visual disturbances, convulsions, circulatory failure, flushing, sweating, fatigue Addiction Drugs: Long-term use of Codeine with a dose of 240mg - 540mg/day can cause drug addiction with common manifestations when drug deficiency is restlessness, tremor, muscle twitching, sweating, runny nose. May cause psychological, physical and drug dependence

Drugs have some interactions:
With alcohol: alcohol increases the sedative effect of the drug, reduces cognition, can be dangerous when driving and operating machinery. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid drinking alcohol and alcohol-containing drugs while taking morphine-based analgesics, antidepressants, H1-antihistamines, sedatives, hypnotics, anxiolytics (except benzodiazepines) that increase CNS depressant effects, reduced cognition, can be dangerous when driving and operating machinery.
