Blood lipids or “blood fat” are an important component of the body consisting of many different structures, the most important of which is cholesterol. Dyslipidemia will increase the amount of cholesterol, triglycerides or both, or reduce the concentration of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or increase the concentration of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) affecting the process of atherosclerosis. Blood lipid tests or “blood fat tests” will help quantify these disorders to determine the pathological condition that causes them.
