Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a form of type 1 diabetes but appears in people over 30 years old. With similar immune characteristics to type 1 diabetes but late onset and symptoms similar to type 2 diabetes such as family history, overweight or obesity or preserved beta cell function, the disease is also called type 1.5 diabetes.

Diabetes has always been classified into 4 groups including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and special diabetes. However, this classification is no longer appropriate when some clinical cases of diabetes are characterized by intertwined pathogenesis as well as clinical manifestations. One of them is latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), which is an immune diabetes but has a slow onset in elderly patients.
