Neo Penotran is a gynecological drug widely used. What does Neo Penotran do and how is it used?
1. What Does Neo Penotran Do?
Each Neo Penotran tablet contains:
- Metronidazole 500mg
- Miconazole nitrate 100mg
- Witepsol S 55 (additive)
Neo Penotran is an azole antifungal agent that inhibits the growth of fungi. It is commonly used to treat vaginal candidiasis, anaerobic bacterial infections, Gardnerella vaginalis, Trichomonas vaginalis, and mixed vaginal infections.
Usage Instructions:
- Insert one Neo Penotran tablet deep into the vagina in the evening for 14 days, or one tablet in the morning and one in the evening for 7 days.
- In case of recurrence or non-responsive vaginitis, insert one tablet deep into the vagina in the morning and one in the evening for 14 days.
- Insert the tablet while lying down.
- Neo Penotran should not be used by virgin women.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
- During the first 3 months of pregnancy.
- Porphyria.
- Epilepsy.
- Severe liver dysfunction.
After the first 3 months of pregnancy, Neo-Penotran vaginal tablets can be used if necessary, but under specialist supervision.
Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment as metronidazole passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding can be resumed 24-48 hours after treatment ends.
The base in Neo Penotran's formulation can interact with rubber or plastic products used in vaginal diaphragms for contraception. It is advisable to treat sexual partners of those infected with Trichomonas vaginalis simultaneously.
2. Possible Side Effects of Using Neo Penotran
Neo Penotran can cause several side effects, including:
- Vaginal irritation
- Abdominal pain or stomach cramps
- Metallic taste in the mouth
- Constipation, dry mouth, diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea, vomiting
- Headache, dizziness, mood changes
- Skin rash
- Leukopenia
These are not all possible side effects. If you experience any side effects while using Neo Penotran, inform your doctor immediately.
Neo Penotran interactions can be observed when metronidazole is used concurrently with the following medications:
- Alcohol: Alcohol intolerance.
- Oral anticoagulants: Increases effectiveness.
- Phenytoin: Phenobarbital reduces metronidazole levels.
- Disulfiram: Central nervous system effects may occur.
- Cimetidine: Increases metronidazole levels and risk of neurological side effects.
- Lithium: Increases lithium toxicity.
Astemizole and terfenadine: Inhibits metabolism, increasing plasma concentrations.
