Read the results of a blood test to diagnose alpha thalassemia

Ask
My 6-year-old baby is anemic, blood tests showed: Hb 8g/dl, MCV 59, MCH 15, TC 434k/ul, Bc/SN 10/5.3 k/ul Fer 71 ng/ml. Electrophoresis: H 0.9%, Bart 2.2%, A 94.8%, F 0.9%, A2 1.2% artery: normal. The doctor concluded that the baby had alpha thalassemia. Ask your doctor for advice on how to read your baby's alpha thalassemia blood test results. Is it true that my baby has this disease? Both my husband and I have no anemia, I would like to ask a doctor for advice!

Hello! The diagnosis of Alpha Thalassemia is reasonable. However, for a more certain diagnosis, the baby should have a genetic test. Both parents carry a recessive gene, so they do not show the disease, but when they get married, 25% of their children will have the disease.
