Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, with an estimated 5,300,000 new cases each year resulting in 7.5% of all cancer deaths among women. About 85% of deaths occur in developing countries from cervical cancer every year. The high global mortality from cervical cancer [1] (~52%) can be reduced by effective screening and treatment programmes.
