Dengue fever can lead to severe complications, including a reduction in platelets. Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) in dengue fever is an immune-related condition. Antibodies attack the platelets, causing their destruction in the spleen, resulting in a decreased platelet count. This makes the body more prone to bleeding, even with minor injuries.

Platelet transfusion is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bleeding in patients with severe thrombocytopenia. This condition may be a result of bone marrow failure, decreased platelet production, or platelet dysfunction. Because it is a blood product, platelet transfusion must be performed correctly and according to the correct instructions to achieve optimal treatment results.

Although drugs are a common cause of acute immune-mediated thrombocytopenia in humans, drug-induced thrombocytopenia is often not initially recognized. Typically, drug-induced thrombocytopenia occurs 1 to 2 weeks after starting a new drug or abruptly after a single dose when a previous drug has not been used continuously. However, severe drug-induced thrombocytopenia can occur shortly after starting antiplatelet or antithrombotic drugs.

Platelet transfusion is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bleeding in patients with severe thrombocytopenia. However, in addition to the benefits, platelet transfusion also leaves some side effects such as chills, allergies, sepsis, etc.
