Acute decline in kidney function in people with acute liver disease or an exacerbation of end-stage liver disease is called hepatorenal syndrome (HCGT). The disease is mainly seen in patients with cirrhosis, ascites, portal hypertension, alcoholic hepatitis, or more rarely, liver tumors, fulminant hepatitis due to different causes.

Hepato-renal syndrome (HPS) occurs mainly in patients with advanced cirrhosis, but can also be seen in acute liver failure. HRS can appear spontaneously. The mortality rate of patients with hepatorenal syndrome is about 80-95%. Median survival is 2 weeks.

The main treatment methods for hepatorenal syndrome are the use of vasopressors, albumin and some invasive techniques, the aim is to prolong the patient's life time.

Organ transplantation in general and liver transplantation in particular is one of the greatest scientific achievements in medicine. Liver transplantation is the best treatment for end-stage liver diseases such as liver cancer, decompensated cirrhosis or liver failure. The world's first liver transplant was performed in the United States in 1963. In Vietnam, the first liver transplant was performed in 2004.
