Does appendicitis require surgery?
The appendix is a small, finger-shaped tube-shaped structure that arises from the first part of the large intestine called the cecum. Appendicitis is when the appendix becomes infected and inflamed. When the appendix becomes inflamed, it swells and in some cases ruptures. When the appendix ruptures, it will cause the infection to spread throughout the abdomen and this is a dangerous complication. Anyone can get appendicitis, but ages 10 to 30 are more common. The standard treatment is resection of the inflamed appendix
