A SUCCESSFUL HIP JOINT DISLOCATION SURGERY FOR CANADIAN SEAPLANE PILOT

Only 3 days after emergency surgery for severe hip joint dislocation due to a traffic accident, seaplane pilot Mr. Dustin Spencer (34 year old, Canadian) was able to begin to walking again. Rapid recovery following his injury was very important to him and he was very pleased by his quick recovery after surgery at Vinmec International Hospital.

Following a crash between motorcycle and a car, Mr. Spencer was unable to move his right leg, which is very painful. On admission to the Emergency Department of Vinmec, Times City International Hospital at 3:30 AM on 29/12/2016, he was diagnosed with total hip joint dislocation – right posterior column acetabular fracture. When realising that he had sustained a very serious bone and joint injury, Mr. Spencer intended to fly back to Canada for treatment.
However, as the retrieval procedure to fly to Canada would cause delayed treatment, he understood this would greatly affect his recovery with potential complication of femoral head necrosis. In the decisive moment, Mr. Spencer chose to put his trust in Dr. Nguyen Dac Nghia - Head of Orthopaedic unit at Vinmec International Hospital, Times City. Dr. Nguyen Dac Nghia is an experienced expert in hip and knee joint surgery in Vietnam. He had successfully operated many knee joint, hip surgery and severe scoliosis cases over the 30 years of his career.

Dr. Nghia and his team conducted reduction of hip joint dislocation, and plate-screw acetabular fixation in a surgery which lasted more than 4 hours.
