Introduction

The Vinmec Research Institute of Stem Cell and Gene Technology (VRISG), led by Professor Liem Thanh Nguyen, is a non-profit biomedical institute as a branch of Vinmec Healthcare system. VRISG was officially established in October 2016 on the basis of excellent achievements over the development of Vinmec Stem Cell and Gene Technology Center, which was created in March 2014.

The VRISG, invested by Vingroup Corporation, is a strategic research unit in the field of biomedicine, with the mission of discovering, developing, and providing innovative cell/gene-based therapies that can translate into healthcare services to save and improve lives of Vietnamese people. Following the motto “Creative and More Creative”, the VRISG focuses all its resources to become the pioneer in Biomedicine and Regenerative Medicine research with clinical applications in Vietnam and the region.

VRISG mission is to research and apply the most state-of-art technologies of Biomedicine and Regenerative Medicine into healthcare service for Vietnamese people.

Strategic Goals

The overarching goal of VRISG is to translate the basis scientific findings into the clinical applications and shorten the pathway from bench to bedside. With the slogan creative and more creative, we aim to:

  • Develop cell/gene-based therapies for incurable diseases
  • Manufacture off-the-shelf medicine products made from stem cells
  • Develop and validate stem cell technologies
  • Decipher the key molecular and cellular mechanisms governing tissue regeneration and immunomodulation responsible for the efficacy of the developed therapies
  • Establish the first GMP facility for cell/gene therapy
