1. Background and purpose

Kidney transplant has been conducted in Vietnam since 1992. Vinmec Hospital is the first private hospital in Viêt Nam to perform kidney transplant. So we would like to present initial outcome of hand-assisted laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy at Vinmec International hospital in Hanoi.

2. Materials and Methods

Prospective study on kidney donors cases at Vinmec hospital from April 2017 to June 2018.

3. Outcome and discussion

From April 2017 to June 2018, we performed hand-assisted living donor nephrectomy. There are 9 living-related donor (LRD) renal transplant cases and 20 living- unrelated renal donation cases. 20 male (accounted for 68.9%), 9 female (accounted for 31.1%). The median age was 34.7 ± 12.68, the youngest age was 19, highest age was 62, people aged 20-40 account for the biggest number (20 cases). Average operating time (counting from incision time to last suture): 161 ± 48 minutes. Warm ischemic time: 3,51±1,6 minutes, shortest is 2 minutes , the longest is 9 minutes. The function of the remaining kidney after transplantation: average urine output: 2569 ± 406 ml, average serum creatinine: 87,7 ± 22,1 mmol /l. Average length of hospital stay: 5,52 ± 0,83 days. There is no case of conversion to open surgery. No mortality noted.

4. Conclusions

Hand-assisted laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy has shown superior results in terms of cosmetics, convalescence, return to normal daily activites and a low rate of surgical complications has been maintained.
