Department of Radiation Therapy - Vinmec Times City International General Hospital

After four years of operation, the Vinmec Times City International Hospital's Radiotherapy Department has mastered advanced radiotherapy procedures, resulting in successful treatment outcomes for hundreds of cancer patients. The center has affirmed its strength in radiation therapy for head and neck cancer, breast, esophageal, lung, stomach, rectal and cervical cancers.

Significant milestones

• January 19, 2015: Radiotherapy Center was officially established.
• December 2015: VMAT radiation was successfully performed for the first time in Vietnam at Vinmec. This success was reported in 4 scientific papers at the National Cancer Conference in Ho Chi Minh City (December 2015).
• 2016: Vinmec became the first hospital in Vietnam to use VMAT radiation therapy for brain tumors that retain the hippocampus, allowing patients to keep their memories. This technique was reported in the National Cancer Conference in Ho Chi Minh City - December 2015)
• 2017: Successfully implemented VMAT radiotherapy techniques to treat upper third of esophageal cancer; SBRT technique for liver & lung cancer treatment; 4D technique - RT without breathing to treat breast, stomach, lung, esophageal cancer...
• 2018, two scientific papers on cancer illnesses were published at the Hue Cancer Annual Meeting in July 2018, and six scientific articles on methods for radiotherapy were published at the Ho Chi Minh City Cancer Annual Meeting on December 12, 2018.

Achievements

Vinmec Times City Radiotherapy Department is at the forefront, mastering most of the radiotherapy techniques in the world, from basic to advanced techniques such as VMAT, SBRT, 4D - Synchronizing breathing,... creating a breakthrough and leader in high-tech radiation therapy in Hanoi and across the country.

• Treatment of a range of disorders, with a focus on head and neck cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, rectum cancer, and cervical cancer.
• Nearly 400 patients were treated, equating to 6,000 radiation sessions, with IMRT/VMAT high-tech radiotherapy techniques accounting for 40% and advanced SBRT and 4D-RT radiotherapy techniques accounting for 5%.

• The National Journal of Cancer and Radiotherapy published 20 scientific papers with outcomes comparable to those of Japan and the United States. Patients getting VMAT radiation therapy for head and neck cancer had a 3-year survival rate of 87.5 percent, which was the same as in Japan and the United States.
• The majority of patients are satisfied with the Radiotherapy Center's treatment and service.
