In close coordination with the Red Cross Society of Hai Phong City and various levels of affiliated branches, Vinmec Healthcare System (Vinmec Hai Phong) has reached out and aided hundreds of impoverished, near-poor, and financially challenged individuals, including those who have contributed to the revolution, offering them medical examinations and treatments.
Mr. Bui Duc Ria (77 years old, residing in Quan Tru, Kien An, Hai Phong), a veteran with a 4/4 grade A disability, has been suffering from hip joint degeneration, making mobility extremely difficult for him over the years. Despite his challenging economic conditions, he persevered, living with uneven legs and difficulty in movement. His special joy came in April 2023 when the Hai Phong City Red Cross Society included him in the list for examination at Vinmec Hai Phong in the community screening program.
After the examination, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luu Hong Hai titled Distinguished Physician, the Medical Director of Vinmec Hai Phong, recommended a total hip replacement surgery for Mr. Ria. Understanding the patient's family situation, Prof. Hai suggested financial support for Mr. Ria's peace of mind during the surgery. As a result, the surgery was performed a few days later. Within 24 hours after the surgery, the patient was already moving, and after 4 days of hospitalisation, Mr. Ria is now able to walk normally.
Mr. Ria is one of 820 Hai Phong residents who received free medical examinations and screenings through 15 free examination sessions at Vinmec Hai Phong in 2023.
In addition to medical examinations in various specialties such as cardiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, internal and gastrointestinal medicine, urology, orthopaedics, and trauma rehabilitation, Vinmec Hai Phong doctors also took the time to educate people on early detection of various diseases prevalent in society today.
"For many people, this is the first time they have been instructed on regularly measuring blood pressure for hypertension screening, performing breast self-exams for breast cancer screening, or undergoing screening tests for colorectal cancer," said Mr. Bui Manh Phuc, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City Red Cross Society.
In 2023, Vinmec Hai Phong initiated various free medical examination programs for the community, showcasing a commitment to community service by consistently maintaining monthly free examination sessions with the participation of experts and skilled doctors from Vinmec Hai Phong and the Vinmec Healthcare System.
In addition to disseminating information through social media and public communication channels, the hospital has closely collaborated with local Red Cross societies to directly provide information to households in need, including those who are impoverished, financially challenged, or have contributed to the revolution. This approach allows the program to reach those who require support the most, providing people with additional opportunities for high-quality healthcare in accordance with international standards.
