Department of Orthopaedics

Department of Orthopaedics provides treatments (surgeries or procedures) of musculoskeletal system diseases relating to extremities, pelvis and spine.

Nowadays, the Department is called Orthopaedics, or Orthopaedic Surgery.

The Department of Orthopaedics is composed of the following subspecialties:

1)     Joint reconstruction surgery: Specializing in replacement surgery of severely damaged joints with artificial joints. For example: hip joints, knee joints, shoulder joints, ankle joints, finger joints, artificial disc in the neck or lumbar spine.

2)     Arthroscopic surgery: Mainly reconstructing of ligaments, tendons, articular capsule, meniscus, synchondrosis or arthroscopic lavage for damaged joints. Arthroscopic surgery can be performed for joints such as: Knee joints, shoulder joints, hip joints, ankle joints, elbow joint, wrist joint.

3)     Spine Surgery: Surgical treatment of diseases such as herniated discs, degenerative disk disease, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal deformities, fractures and dislocations of the spine, spinal cancer; vertebroplasty...

4)      Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery: Specialized treatment of musculoskeletal diseases of children under the age of 16.

5)    Hand Surgery: Specialized treatment of hand diseases. Microsurgery glasses are often used for the surgery. For example: Replantation of a finger.

6)    Trauma surgery: Specialized treatment of bone fractures, joint dislocations or sprains, soft tissue lesions of limbs and pelvis. It is possible to treat with minimally invasive surgery or ultra-light cast reduction.

7)     Sports medicine deals with physical health and provides treatment of injuries related to competition, playing sports and doing exercises.

8)   It is possible that several new specialities can be separated: Foot and Ankle Surgery, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
